MESSAGE FROM Dr AGAHI

It is with a heavy heart that I have finally decided to hang up my stethoscope. I have now served the local North Belfast community and Ardoyne specifically, for about 20 years. It has been a joy and a privilege. When I took over from Dr McKee the staff at the Surgery consisted of Marguerite, who worked full time, and Olwyn who worked 4 mornings a week, along with myself. Now we have 10 staff (including our own Treatment Room Nurse and Health Care Assistant) and 4 part-time doctors. The patient numbers have grown by some 40%, and the workload by about 400%. The Surgery has needed to be extended once and we are about to have a second and even larger extension. Dr Pinto is returning from maternity leave and Dr Toner has just left for her maternity leave (I must get the Surgery water tested)!

I am going to ‘clinically’ retire as of end of January. This means I will no longer be seeing patients. However, I will still be working at Mountainview Surgery in the background. Dr Aoife Quinn became a GP partner in April 2024. She is second to none, and a perfect addition to the team, and well capable of sailing the ship onwards and upwards. Nevertheless, I will be working in an admin capacity to help Dr Quinn in almost all matters, and getting us ready for the next GP partner.

I will ask for your patience during the phase of the extension of the Surgery. There will be a few weeks of disruption to services and we will keep you informed of temporary changes, e.g. to the Treatment Room arrangements.

Finally, I would like to mention again what a privilege it has been to serve my patients and to say that you are in good hands going forward.

May God bless you all.
